Cricket: County Championship history

The English county cricket championship has not officially begin until the National in 1890, but a few decades ago, there were official competitions of the best teams in the country to be determined.

There are records dating back to 1825 in part to a small race with a handful of English counties. A winner was announced, only if they went all season without the other teams and was before her graduation in 1963, wonSussex, Surrey, Kent and Nottinghamshire.

And "most agreed that the first official competition in 1964 began when the country sports press decided the champion, it was the use of consensus on a single sample to choose, but several publications that each winner's name on it -. Often but do not always agree.

Used even with a points system as a guide for the last few seasons, there have been some disputes.

Finally, in 1890 there was a system in which an agreedRanking would be used to stop the champion of the season. Gloucestershire, Kent, Lancashire, Middlesex, Nottinghamshire, Surrey, Sussex and Yorkshire all races attended the founding meeting, which was eventually won by Surrey.

The changes are certainly unites more beneficial to the game in the seasons following counties: Somerset in 1891 and Derbyshire, Essex, Hampshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire, all united for the year 1895, the year in which the MCC has its specificApproval.

Worcestershire in 1905, followed in 1899 and Northamptonshire.

Joined the only other club to this page were Welsh Glamorgan in 1921 and Durham in 1992.

The addition of these new clubs has meant that it is impractical for all teams play exactly the same number of games was, had to play every team at least sixteen games, but for a long time, and some of them could play a system was necessary order to counter the dominance of teams and more games. It wasdecided that the highest average number of points should be used per game than as an indicator of the best teams.

Another change was made in 1910, where the team would play games with the best ratio test wins. This system lasted only a year ago introduced a points system.

No exact format until 1968, were worth 10 points for a win and not awarded for a draw, with bonus points for a successful game and quickly established excellent in the firstInnings.

Only minor changes until 1996 when, in an attempt to avoid, finishing games, the first points have been assigned draws.

This point is still in force today, but most are monumental upset in the competition until 1999, when it was announced the league would be divided into two divisions, the quality, with promotion and relegation between the two after each season.

There was a time of declining visitor numbers and should to stop the slide, reducing theNumber of devices that had little impact on the overall success of the team.

Despite fears it would damage the split teams finished in the second division, was successful in awakening the interest and increase ticket sales for almost every club in the final analysis, at least for the moment to the survival of all circles eighteen.
