The median monthly rent right now in Albany for all sizes of condominiums and homes listed through real estate agencies is about $1,600 according to the multiple listing sources that local agents use. It does not include owner listings on sites such as craigslist.

Rachael Hand, a broker associate with Coldwell Banker, said rents are on the rise in part because people who have gone through short sales and foreclosures are renting because they cannot currently qualify for a home loan.
