With only one life to live there is no reason not to make the most of it. Being college students, we devote a large portion of our time to exercising the mind. With that being said, why not let that momentum carry over to exercising our bodies? Within every person exists the ability to become the person that he or she wants to be. Whether you?re striving to become a doctor, a lawyer, or simply employed, improving your physical health will serve only to benefit you as you pursue your dreams. And maybe, if you?re like me, falling in love with fitness could even inspire you to make new dreams.

Sadly, as stated earlier, college kids are busy and constantly overworked. Therefore, a common complaint is that there just isn?t enough time in the day to workout. When I hear this excuse I sigh, shake my head, and look the soon-to-be motivated person in the eyes and say, ?We all have the same amount of time in a day. So, if you make your health a high enough priority then you will find the time to be fit.? Of course, this answer doesn?t work for everyone. Nor does it work to squish every reason that people use not to be active. But I can?t emphasize this enough, if being fit is a priority, and if you truly want to complement your strong mind with a healthy body, then you will achieve the results you desire.

Oftentimes, the people using these excuses don?t even realize the rewards that they are missing out on. Not only does exercise improve your physical health (regularly active people are far less likely to have cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and even some types of cancer), but it also benefits your mental health (less likely to be depressed and also lower levels of stress). Another great reason that busy college students who don?t get enough sleep should exercise is that working out actually boosts your overall energy. Therefore, next time you choose not to exercise be sure to apologize to your body for not treating it the way it deserves.

Finally, some people are hesitant to begin a physical fitness program because they simply don?t know how to workout. In addition, choosing the right workout also depends on what your goals are. If you want to lose weight then a cardio heavy program is the best option. If it?s muscle that you crave then you will want to focus on weight lifting. Luckily, there is a vast library of resources you can find on the Internet to design the perfect program for you (I suggest bodybuilding.com). For those who wish to have a more hands-on method of fitness education then seeking out a personal trainer is an excellent option (most gyms have personal trainers that will work with you). In the end, you already have the key that will unlock your fitness dreams. The key is found from within. All you need to do is seize it.

Pete Clouse is a proud Buckeye that bleeds scarlet and gray. He is currently majoring in Spanish with the intention of attending law school after he completes life as an undergrad. When he is not busy hitting the books he will either be in the weight room lifting weights or outside officiating one of the many intramural sports offered at The Ohio State University. In addition, Pete also is a proud member of Ohio State?s Running Club. If there were one quote that Pete would choose to live his life by it would be from the great Ralph Waldo Emerson, ?Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.?
