2013 All England Open: Saina Nehwal overwhelms Belaetrix Manuputi in pre quarter-finals
India?s badminton queen Saina Nehwal continued her unbeatable run in Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships and marched into the quarter-finals on March 7, 2013.
She was up against a relatively lower ranked contender Belaetrix Manuputi and she did not find any trouble in sealing a splendid straight-set victory.
This Women?s Singles encounter was staged at the local badminton arena of Birmingham and it lasted for 34 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-16 and 21-11.
However, there will not be a smooth road to glory for Saina Nehwal as she is scheduled to meet Wang Shixian of China in round of eight.
In her second match of this prestigious tournament, the Indian campaigner employed all of her experience and brilliance in the game and alarmed all the contestants.
She raised her chances by clinching first match point on merit and then wrapped this showdown with a splendid show of badminton craft in second set.
The opening game started with Saina playing authoritative badminton. She did not show mercy in the establishing rallies and made a significant difference on the points table.
Belaetrix was not prepared for such an intensive attack and she remained at the lower end all the way to mid-game break.
After the one-minute interval, Saina lost grip for a short span of time but then few back-to-back productive rallies reinstated her dominance. She did not make even a single mistake and registered a winning margin of 21-16.
Next set proved a dead contest as Belaetrix could not stop her rival from sealing a commendable straight-set victory.
Initially, she showed some spark but then her fluctuated performance led her to a woeful exit from this esteemed event.
On the other hand, Saina enjoyed complete supremacy on the court. She mounted pressure by pocketing many valuable points in a row and then doubled the impact by piling up a decent total of 11.
Latter part of the game saw her in sublime touch as she swept the table with a significant margin of 21-11.
However, the real challenge awaits her in the quarter-final round where former world champion Wang Shixian is waiting for her.
